Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education at Beebe Healthcare is seeking an experienced and dynamic physician to serve as the inaugural Program Director for our Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship. The inaugural PD will be responsible to develop, design and implement the new training program in a community-based hospital. This is a phenomenal opportunity to join the organization and be an integral part of a growing GME enterprise. Responsible for the planning, implementation and direction of the Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship in coordination with the DME, DIO and Office of Medical Education. The Program Director (PD) is responsible for the overall planning and direction of activities associated with the Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship in order to meet the ACGME, certifying boards, Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements for fellows and faculty as outlined by the hospital. Under the direction of the DME, DIO and the Graduate Medical Education Committee, the PD assists in maintaining and supporting the mission of patient care, the medical staff bylaws, and the policies, procedures and bylaws of the medical center (in accordance with the Board of Directors, Administration, Medical Staff, and Nursing of Beebe Healthcare). The expectations will be as follow: 20% Administrative Time for Program Directorship of the Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship 80% Clinical time Design and conduct the fellowship in a fashion consistent with the needs of the community, the mission of Beebe Healthcare, and the mission of the fellowship. Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating the fellows in each of the ACGME competency areas. Maintain clinical skills by providing direct patient care. Understand and fully implement the ACGME Institutional Requirements, Common Program Requirements along with the Hospice and Palliative Care requirements. Responsible to the DME will counsel fellows concerning performance and will take appropriate academic/disciplinary action or develop a remediation plan as needed. Provides final written evaluation for each fellow who completes the program. Selects fellows for appointment to the fellowship in compliance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures. Participates in the Orientation activities for all fellows. Assists in evaluating the quality of care provided by the Fellows through concurrent and/or retrospective random chart reviews, or other reviews as appropriate, with follow-up educational sessions. Attends and participates in the regularly scheduled GMEC meetings and any other education and planning meetings as required by GME. Participates in the education of medical students, as appropriate, upon the direction of the Graduate Medical Education Committee. Serves on the Graduate Medical Education Committee representing the Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship. Establish and maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship with an active research component. Any other educational duties as directed by the Director of Medical Education, DIO and/or GMEC. ABMS or AOA board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. Minimum of two (2) years in a clinical practice of hospice and palliative medicine. Current medical licensure in the state of Delaware and appropriate medical staff appointment. At least two (2) years of documented educational and/or administrative experience in an ACGME-accredited hospice and palliative medicine program. Overview The academic hospitalist will be responsible for providing high-quality inpatient care, clinical and didactic teaching, and clinical leadership within an academic medical setting. Responsibilities Patient Care Provide best practice using evidence based inpatient care for patients across a wide variety of medical conditions. Conduct daily rounds, including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of hospitalized patients. Provide inpatient services in such a manner to assure that professional standards are being met on a consistent and regular basis. Manage patient's care throughout the entire inpatient stay. Managing patients care includes but may not be limited to facilitating diagnostic testing and results; scheduling procedures; accelerating patients progress through the healthcare system; and managing utilization and discharge planning. Provide inpatient services in such a manner to assure that professional standards are being met on a consistent and regular basis, Ensure effective communication with patients and their families and their primary care physician regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress Coordinate care across specialties and collaborate with consultants and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. In conjunction with the Quality and Safety Committee and other appropriate committees, participate in quality assurance activities, conduct quality assurance studies and where indicated, correct all deficiencies noted in any such study. Interact in a positive and constructive manner with all team members, patients, resident physicians, students and medical staff members. h. Use best efforts to schedule all Healthcare System ancillary testing to be completed as early as the next day if possible. Use best efforts to provide professional services to patients in a timely basis in order to minimize delay of discharges beyond 11:00 am. Serve on medical staff committees as reasonably requested by the Chief Physician Executive, Physician in Chief, Director of Medical Education, Designated Institutional Official or administration. Assist in formulating a report on inpatient services to administration on a regular basis. Such reports will include detailed information regarding transfers, referrals, consultations and other information as requested. Participate in problem solving, budget preparation, strategic planning, preparation for state and Joint Commission surveys and other administrative matters. m. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement and safety objectives, environmental and infection control standards. Follow established Beebe standards, departmental policies, and Medical Staff Bylaws. Provide input in a mutually agreed fashion to administration regarding non-physician staff and the performance and duties related to inpatient services. Teaching and Education Supervise, teach, and mentor medical students, resident physician and fellows during their clinical rotations. Priority is to teach and advance learner knowledge and patient safety. Deliver bedside teaching, case presentations, and didactic learning. Foster an environment of learning and professional development, encouraging critical thinking and evidence-based decision making. Participate in the development and delivery of educational curriculum for medical students, resident physicians and fellows. Provide timely and appropriate feedback to learners on a regular basis and assist in their career development. Feedback will be provided formally and informally throughout the educational experience. Formal written evaluations must be completed via the approved residency management suite. Actively participates in institutional and program level scheduled meetings, including but not limited to Faculty Meetings, the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) in collaboration with residency Program Director(s). g. Attends didactics regularly and presents lectures throughout the year. h. May assist in the recruiting, interviewing, selection and ranking of prospective residents during recruitment season in collaboration with respective residency Program Director. Participates in academic meetings, conferences and workshops to stay current with emerging trends in hospital medicine and academic medicine. Participates in scholarly activity projects with medical students, resident physicians and/or fellows. Participates in faculty development activities as sponsored by the Office of Medical Education. Communicates regularly with residency Program Director(s) on resident physician academic progress. Communicates regularly with Medical Education leadership and Medical Director of hospitalist on the workflow/operations of the academic service. Qualifications Education and Experience Required MD or DO medical degree from an accredited medical school Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Medical licensure in the state of DE or the ability to obtain licensure in the state of DE with appropriate medical staff appointment. At least one year's experience in teaching and mentoring of medical students, resident physicians, and/or fellows is strongly preferred. Evidence of scholarly activity, including research publications, or presentations is preferred. Strong clinical skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Strong organizational and time management skills.

    Overview

    Performs diagnostic medical sonograms in accordance with the established professional and departmental standards and procedures.

    Responsibilities

    Reviews consultation request, checking for special instructions from requesting physician and consults with the Radiologist as necessary. Completes all departmental processes for resulting and documentation of exams. Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself. Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and their family if present. Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of all equipment located within the Ultrasound department. Performs all routine diagnostic and ultrasound procedures according to established protocols. Assists the Radiologist with US guided biopsies/drainages. Verifies that patient has consented to the procedure and fully understands risks, benefits, alternatives and follow-up. Assures exam pre-requisites are completed prior to appointment. Evaluates lab values, as required, prior to beginning interventional procedures. Ensures appropriate storage and ordering of supplies for the Ultrasound area. Monitors and reports supplies in shortage and special order items. Performs visual preventive safety inspections and conducts daily quality assurance tests on the Ultrasound Scan equipment. Identifies any problems and communicates to immediate supervisor. Evaluates the scans for technical quality. Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper positioning. Assures access to care by adding on exams whenever possible or finding an alternative when not possible. Verifies correct order entry and supply charging. Maintains Joint Commission standards and ACR accreditation. E PAC scans all patient related forms and information. E Follows the department Code of Conduct. Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures and administers first aid or CPR as needed.

    Qualifications

    One year of previous experience in the hospital setting preferred. Ability to lift patients up to 50lbs.
